All Roads Lead to… Rhodes #Day 2
Greek drivers are crazy!
The nearby small town of Afantou boasts a cute land train that takes a near hour-long circuit around the surrounding area, so we got on board in a futile effort to gather our bearings. After getting off back in town, we sprung for lunch at the square and watched the world go by for a while.
I have been to several European countries, and it’s true that many of them seem to take a carefree approach to the rules of the road.
Drivers in Rhodes are no different.
It’s not uncommon to see them using their phone while weaving precariously in between parked cars; nor is it apparently a big deal for a guy to be on his scooter with his wife behind him, grabbing his waist, and his daughter in front, holding on to whatever the hell she can find to hold on to!
But as crazy and (seemingly) careless as the drivers here are, nobody sat on their horn to signal their displeasure at what was going on, or to move someone out of the way.
People here just seem to have more time and patience, which is nice.
If that was back home, well… it just would not have gone down that way.
